You can turn off Chrome’s Help me write suggestion

4 weeks ago 53

As of late, desktop Chrome has been more actively highlighting its generative AI features, but you can fortunately turn off the “Help me write” suggestion.

You access the gen AI writing tool in desktop Chrome by right-clicking in a text field for “Help Me Write” (below Emoji & Symbols) to enter a prompt.

Recently, Chrome has been popping up a “Help me write: Powered by Google” bubble. While it does not always appear, it happens often enough to be annoying and is somewhat disruptive. Fortunately, there is a three-dot overflow menu that lets you “Disable” it outright.

That option is curiously not housed in Settings > Experimental AI (which is just home to the Tab organizer), but rather in Privacy and security > Content > Additional content settings > Offer writing help (at the bottom): “Help me write” can automatically open when a text box on a site can be filled with short-form content.

Help me write launched in February with Chrome 122. Powered by Gemini, Google takes into account the context of a webpage to offer more relevant responses. For example, when writing an app review in the Play Store, Chrome will pull the app name and use the description when generating a response.

Meanwhile, Chrome has also been promoting the “Create theme with AI” feature in the bottom-right corner of the New Tab Page.
